Precision Machining Engineering

While P&J doesn’t design product currently, we work very close with customer Engineering Departments to solve problems. We have been used as a resource for input for product design, material selection and manufacturability advice for the 787 interior.

P&J was the first company outside of the Boeing Company to use Catia V5 model to produce product. We worked with the IRC (Interior Response Center) Department from Boeing on the 767 EMD (Enhanced Main Deck) Project to help determine process for outside use of Digital media.

P&J has 2 seats of Mastercam X, 1 seat of Catia, 2 seats of Solid Works and 1 seat of Vericut. The engineering PnJ does conduct is in tooling, creating inspection plans and inspection fixtures. All software is on maintenance and is current as releases become available. We are in daily contact with Engineering Groups to work thru issues identified before and during manufacturing. The issues range from material limitations, conflicts between digital and paper media, and redesign input of product to reduce costs of production.

The CNC programs output from Mastercam is run thru Vericut to validate the code written, allowing offline verification increasing the quality of programs produced during First Article production, this process has had positive benefits seen in streamlined production reducing errors and reducing the scrap rate while increasing overall production.

The Programming Department is the earliest stage of production that Manufacturing and Inspection collaborate on families of product to determine resources required for product flow and product acceptance. This brain storming session is where the quoted commitments are turn into reality by communicating resources required to the department responsibly for manufacturing planning (Inspection Department). This collaboration is extremely valuable in creating a unified production plan eliminating potential issues down stream.
