Our first cell machining center was purchased in 1998. Half of the system was purchased - 1 machine and 30 pallets (tombstones). After the schedule was full, we purchased our 2nd machine in 2002, adding 30 more pallets (tombstones). Today this precision CNC machining unit runs unmanned for 18-20 hours a day, 6 days a week (into the 7th) with 1 day for preventive maintenance, as required. During schedule build up (new parts being added to the pallet rotation) spindle efficiency was 90%. Currently, with the schedule, established spindle efficiency is at 95-97%, with only tool changes to interrupt manufacturing.
